Awesome headphones

Apart from very high end like electrostatic stax ($2000+) these are the best headphones I've owned. The bass is quite tight (but powerful enough) has lots of definition (great for dnb engineering). The mids and highs have a lot of clarity and range. They are comfortable and light, achieving a balance between head tightness for noise isolation but don't hurt your ears. They have a modular design that makes it easy to replace parts. The design is sturdy and strong. The length of cheap cable effects sound, but they could do with being 2-2.5m itstead of 1.5m. As for people complaining about looks.. well thats just stupid. You obviously aren't into music for the music. 2008-03-22

Well, after my initial review of the Mk I in 2003 I now need to buy another pair ..... not because they are knackered but because my 5 year old boy won't give me them back!. He uses them for his PC and portable DVD player, and I can guarantee even he won't break them. I looked on my DJ software and I have done over 300 gigs with these since 2003 and apart from slight wear on the pads they are still working perfectly. The new pair will be coming out of his pocket money for the next 5 years. Brilliant - don't buy anything else! 2007-12-09

I've had these headphones for about 7yrs - the first pair i had i left on a train... Yes i'm still gutted!!

the main reason for writing this review is after reading some of the other comments left by people who haven't given them 5 stars i found the main gripe is the leather ear pads and i have to agree with them, mine started to go after about 2yrs however i made the investment in a pair of velour earpads a few years back and for an extra tenner they are well worth it - they still look brand new now!

In a nut shell you want these headphones.

I started out with a free pair of Numark HF125 Headphones which were ...very poor. Then I was on a budget after getting my technics and liked the look of the Numark PHX1 Headphones. Which for the money are really good value, a choice of cables, spare ear pads, good for bedroom, but not built to last or for the volume to be turned up!

After using these in a club, the technics, and sonys there was a difficult choice ahead of me. The Technics are too bulky & heavy, sonys really good, but wont last... HD25's all the way and some. Lightweight, all parts are replaceable, your basically just paying for the wire! These beauties have a better output than most monitor speakers :)

Buy these! ... even if you're deaf, if you're not deaf turn these up and you soon will be.
First off i got these delivered just after i hit the checkout, there must have been a van already outside the house waiting. Thought i had an empty box but these are so light, the packaging weighs more than the phones. They are a bit ugly and it were tempting to put the box on my head instead.
These sound great! Listened to Prodigy - Breathe and immediately went in to orgasmic spasm. The cord could be longer but it's not too short. Very clear sound, no distortion, and good bass which isn't too over-powering. 2006-12-11

Just swapped me Sony MDR-V700's for a pair of these and within 6 hours non-stop use all i can say is WOW. At one point i forgot i was even wearing any. The MDR-V700's can be heavy and sometimes too bassy. These give you crystal clear sound, look a bit flimsy but put a pair on and you will soon think otherwise. Some people say the lead is a bit short, if so Sennheiser sell a longer one :) 2005-06-22

Whoever thinks that these headphones face competition from sony needs to get a life. Sennheiser is a much better brand, these headphones are much better, and belive me i've had to put up with sonys at numerous gigs. Whilst sony headphones are very good their too over priced, the hd25's are totally special for the price, dont bother considering mid price headphones becuase they will sound crap, and will need replacing, spend twice as much but for headphones that are 100x as good buy with complete confidence. Make sure you have very good specialist amplifier such as marantz or even better(aura)and decent speakers and cables becuase when you can hear the music clearer you can mix so much better. I'm sick to death of people £600 - £800 decks and £500 mixers playing through standard £90 sony amp. General rule spend 40 percent of the cost of the decks, mixer, headphones on a decent amp and speakers 2005-06-20

Unstoppable headphones. Always been a fan of Sennheiser but really these are the the best headphones on the planet.

Take a bit of running in say 10 mins at high volume or 15-20 at medium, once warmed up these are accurate and give the exact output they are given.

One track to test them out with is BT - Flaming June - ESCM. listen to that through a decent source and you'll be sold. 2005-04-29

These headphones are amazing. I work in Film & TV and these are the best headphones for the job. They work brilliantly on location becuase of their ability to block out almost external noise, their quality is amazing, I have thousands of pounds of studio speakers and still prefer to use these babies. Their bass response is very deep and their treble is nimble even at extremely high volumnes. I use them on shoots, I use them in the studio, I use them in the park. It's come to a point were if you see a sound guy without these you have to look down on them lol cruel I know but these really are that far ahead of the competition. I have had these for over 6 months and they are still superb. So good in fact I have stopped using the more practical (wireless ones that mean I dont need the lead extension) Sony cans and have been using these permenantly.
They are very loud, but crystal clear. I play a very wide variety through them and they play everything back perfectly.
Unfortunately I am having to go through my MP3's and recode them from the original CD's again at higher bitrates as the HD25's are showing the flaws in even some 160kbps rips. But its all good.

I wouldnt even consider using any other headphones.. They have never let me down ever. The sound is great, and the movement is second to none. Have had these headphones for nearly 10 months and I have to say they are the best I have ever used. They don't look flash which suits me but they do the business and the build quality is great, no breakages at all....yet. Only draw back is the leather on the ear pieces is so soft that it rips away easier than it is to rip paper. I've got quite a bit of tape round em to try and get a couple more uses out of em. Definately the best but if you prefer to have the head band round the back of your neck when DJing rather than on your head then go for the 700s/1000s as they are more comfortable to work with when using headphones like this. 2004-12-12

Wikid Headphones, The way it isolates sound is superb! When you've got both ears covered you can hardly hear the outside world! Sound is gerat and the design is cool, you can adjust it to fit any head shape and the way one pad rotates back is unique and gives it wikid character! If i had to fault it, which i dont, i would say the wire isnt long enough and you might tug on it when trying to grab another record, so take em of befor you do that! happy Mixing 2004-12-09

I use these beasts at home and travel all over london's smaller clubs with em. I havent treated them as well as i should of but these have took every bit of punishment. they have been took all over to mates houses and clubs over 100 times. they have been stood on, dropped from a 25 metre high balcony, and had drink spilt on them (all by accident of course) and dont have a single scratch to show for it. comfortable as h*ll i forget im wearing them and always walk of with them still on my head until the cable stops me. They are so strong and sound like.... well cant explain just listen and find out you will know what i mean. as for DJ Feedback what did you do put them on an electric sander my pads are solid couldn't rip em off if i tried. 2004-11-10

these are the BESTEST headphones EVEREST. i couldnt believe how small they were when i first took them out of the pack, not much headphone for 100+ quid. but the sound they produce is awesome. the thing i like most is the sensitivity i can run them on my discman at insane volumes. ive had these for a few days now and i havent hear them distort at all, i think you would be deft before you would hear these distort, its just amazing how loud these can go. the light weight design rocks and they look cool to. theyve really improved my mixing, i dont know how i lived without them. top cans buy em now! 2004-10-10
Best phones available but still not perfect

Great head phones and I would agree with everything that has been said in their favour.

HOWEVER having had mine for some time I do have one gripe about the quality of the ear pads and padding on the head band. After extended use the vinyl covering on these areas WILL start to come away. I know this isn't just me or the way that I treat them as I have seen exactly the same thing happen to two other DJ's with these cans. As others have said replacement parts are readily available but they are very expensive. If your cans have wear like mine you should expect to pay £20 for replacement ear pads! and £40 for a new head band. If I really had to find another fault it would be the connection between the wires and the cans. My right side can occasionally cuts out and needs to be jiggled slightly for it to start working again. Sorry to mention some negative points but despite them there is still no alternative to these otherwise perfect headphones. 4/5 2004-10-04

these are without a doubt the best headphones. simple as. if you want to get bog standard £50 headphones go ahead and waste your money. if you want the worlds best then here you have em. Don't buy them if your using them in a crap set up. Only for the professional setup. These cups are used by professional DJ's and producers because of there amazing sound and amazing strength. Ever had a £50 pair of headphones, well if you have i imagine that if you have you had to cellotape togeather at some time. at the moment i have st8-100s. i also have a 280 quid sony amp with 300 quid speakers and after listing to the sound quallity that comes out of theese headphones i was blown away. im use them for spanish techno and it opens up all the little detailes of the music that you dont hear on headphones that cost even £60. it alows you to mix all the little detailed sounds and you can tell the diffrence. I was on a 40 quid budget but was persuaded to buy them from a mate and now i think there worth every penny + more. aswell if you by theese they will last you your whole life there that strong. it saves you money in the long run ive been through about 6 pairs of mid price headphones i wish id bought theese first and i would of saved about 200 bar. you wont belive the difference a pair of good headphones makes 2004-08-24

The only complaint I have is the length of the lead, its too short by my liking. Most other top of the range headphoned have longer leads than this. Don't know if I'm being fussy or not, but I thought it was worth mentioning. 2004-05-11

Well what can I say, first of all the service from Dj Store to start with was first class, I ordered these after 5 o'clock on Wednesday night and I still recieved them next day, Superb!!!

As for the headphones, i'd always promised I would buy myself a set of these, and I certainly ain't dissapointed, the sound is absolutely crisp, bass is superb!!! They are very comfortable, the lead to the jack plug is a realistic length and not so long that you can go from the mixer to the bar for a pint and still have some length!

If you're hesitating - don't these are truly excellent headphones that won't disappoint. I bought them for high quality monitoring and am running them with a laptop PC and an M-Audio transit usb audio card. The result is excellent quality and huge sound levels - the HD-25s are very sensitive. The closed backs and noise supression mean you really get to hear the detail in the recordings. As well as delivering excellent sounds, the build quality is outstanding with full replacement parts available and easy to self-fit. These are going to last for years! when i put them on i started to cry they were soo amazing ive used over 15 pairs of top quallity headphones over the past 11 years of djin but nothing has even came close you can stand next to a the speakers in any rave club with the music blasting and have the music very quiet in the ear phones and you cant hear the loudspeaker outside. the build is 2nd to none you can take them all over and treat them like s*** for probally up to ten years and they still wont give in. its easy to tell the base in the headphone from the base on the other track because the base power of these beauts it immense & makes beatmatching a doddle. only problem is if u make a mistake by miss matching beats then the classic excuse "i couldnt hear the other beat in the phones" is out of the window but if you are buying theese then chances are it will never happen 2003-12-15

They have just arrived! And already i can see why i spent the money. The attenuation of them is fab, and the bass response is stunning as is the overall frequency response. Very confortable, i could wear them throughout a gig. Just remember that they go very very loud, which isn't great for those ear's. Great pair of headphones, bass isnt as deep as others but i prefer this, as during the mix it doesnt sound too cluttered, and the bass doesnt sound longer than it actually is. Sound attenuation is the best ive ever heard in any pair of headphones, u cant hear f**k all outside the phones with these things on. They are expensive if ur starting out, but i would recommend these to any dj out there. Certainly help u beat match more accurately. 2003-09-30

I've had these cans for just over a week now. I have used several pairs of phones in my time, but none offer the sound quality or the attenuation of outside noise (useful at gigs) that these ones do. Bass is punchy, treble is crisp, and the phones are very comfortable to wear. Some will say they don't look very good, but the modest appearence of the hd-25 allows you to use them wherever you want, even on the train or in the street. Just be careful when you cross the road though- as i can't even hear my mobile ring with these things on! 2003-05-24

Had these headphones for just over a week. First impressions is that the build quality is a bit shoddy and the cable could definately do with being a bit longer but when you take into account that everything can be replaced relatively cheaply it seems reasonable. The clarity of sound is outstanding reproduces the record brilliantly. Nice and light on the head as well so dont start annoying you after a couple of hours. I have only been playing for a few months but already in a few different environments, and with different headphones, and these are definatly by far the best. The clarity is second to none, you can turn the volume of the mixer up as loud as want (if your ears can take it) and they will not distort , the noise reduction from the club is top notch (you probably wouldn't hear one of Saddams nuclear missiles hit the club with these babys on), and when something breaks you can replace it (not like other sets of fones when something breaks you have to buy a new set) but when you do it is easy. 2003-01-06

Outstanding pair of headphones!
Clear full-range reproduction.. Amazingly powerful bass, crisp & clear mids and superb treble. These just seem to take as much as you can throw at them and never distort! Your ears will give up before these 'phones!

best cans out there.
got mine about a month ago and they have had an immediate impact on the quality of my mixin.
basically, before i got them my mixin was hit or miss, and now i can bang in seamless mixes (almost) every time. cant just be a coincidence. regardless to how they look u cant argue with the fact these cans perform better than any other out there. if u wanna be a poser buy sony but if u wanna enjoy the feeling of hittin mix after mix buy these babies.

Better than the rest!

A product which still works. These headphones will last a lifetime, they have a clear crist sound, they can also firm very well extreemely high volumes and still sound perfectly clear. Beside the technical facts, it is also very comfortable to wear. 2002-09-13

I must admit that i am not a dj, but i know what i like and i like high quality sound reproduction. I hardly use these beauties but i enjoy it when i do cos it is a whole new listening experience... As another old saying goes: "If you buy cheap you pay dear". I think I may have been one of those dj's mentioned above as I went through 5 pairs of various headphones in the space of 11 months and now these beauties are nae bother, no problems what so ever, excellent sound, lightweight and fantastic. The best bit is when you get them for the first time straight out the box and stick them on your head - oooh that feel. You have to try it for yourself. 2002-01-15
Serious headphones for serious DJs

How much? For a pair of headphones!! The price tag may seem a bit hefty at first but It's that old saying "You get what you pay for" I've had my pair of HD25s for nearly two years now and not had any problems with them. No damaged cables, no broken headbands, no destroyed drivers. I know DJs who buy cheap headphones and go through 6-7 pairs in a year! HD25s are money well spent.
